UTT National Ranking Table Tennis Championships: Priyanuj and Avisha win under-17 trophies

ttPanchkula: In a thrilling final at the UTT National Ranking Table Tennis Championships on Tuesday, Priyanuj Bhattacharjee of Assam and Avisha Karmakar of West Bengal emerged victorious in the Youth Boys and Girls U-17 finals, respectively—both overcoming tough competitions to claim their well-deserved titles at the Tau Devi Lal Indoor Multipurpose Hall.

Priyanuj, who had come close on two previous attempts this season, finally made his breakthrough with a 3-1 win over defending champion P.B. Abhinand of Tamil Nadu. Although Abhinand fought hard, especially with a strong recovery in the third game, Priyanuj's composure in critical moments sealed the deal. He took a 2-0 lead and ultimately closed out the match.

Meanwhile, in the Girls U-17 final, Avisha Karmakar bounced back from a narrow miss in Goa to clinch the crown with a 3-1 victory over Diya Bramhachary of Delhi. After taking a commanding 2-0 lead, Avisha weathered a brief surge from Diya in the third game and regained control to secure the win, showcasing skill and resilience throughout the contest.

Priyanuj swept Sudhanshi Maini of Delhi 3-0 in their semifinal outing, while Avisha did the same in the Girls’ semifinal, defeating Sayanika Maji of Delhi. Both players cruised to their final spots without any major challenges.

In the quarterfinals, Priyanuj, Sarthak, Atherva, and P.B. Abhinand all secured dominant 3-0 or 3-1 wins to move to the semifinals.

Among girls, Avisha and Sayanika advanced with impressive 3-0 wins, and Diya scored a 3-1 triumph, while Ankolika pulled off a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Ananya Muralidharan (TN) to progress.

Aditya and Divyanshi excel

Aditya Das of Bengal dominated the U-15 Youth Boys final, overcoming Vishruth Ramakrishnan of Tamil Nadu 3-1. Despite a close loss in the third game, Aditya remained in control and secured the expected win.

In the U-15 Girls final, Divyanshi Bhowmick faced a tough challenge from left-handed Riana Bhoota of Maharashtra. After an extended battle, Riana forced a decider, but Divyanshi’s attacking play sealed the win 3-2. It was her consecutive title win for Divyanshi after the Goa events.

Virush advanced to the final with a 3-1 victory over Akash Rajavelu of Tamil Nadu in the semifinals, even as Aditya secured his spot with a commanding 3-0 win against Atharva Nawarange of Karnataka.
