India’s boxing sensation Vijender Singh accepts British professional boxer Amir Khan’s challenge to fight in India

Vijender Singh Fight BannerIndian boxing star Vijender Singh has accepted the challenge of British professional boxer Amir Khan to fight in India to promote the sport and take the game to the next level. Vijender said the fight between him and Amir will provide a big boost to the young boxers and boxing in the home country.

On the other hand, British boxer, Khan is gearing up to fight his first ‘Middleweight’ bout against the defending champion Canelo Alvarez of Mexico in Las Vegas, USA on the coming May 7.

Earlier, Amir has said that he held high regards for Indian boxing legend Mary Kom and Olympic bronze medallist- Vijender Singh. He also expressed his desire to fight with the Bhiwani-born boxer in the future to promote boxing as a sport in the sub-continent region (India and Pakistan).
According to the reports in The Hindu, Vijender replied on Khan’s challenge by saying “I accept the challenge of Amir Khan and I am sure this fight will be a big boost for boxing in our country.”

“As we both fight in different weight categories so will have to see whether Amir gains or I have to lose weight. I have started my professional boxing career only last year and have made only four appearances in the pro ring.”

He further added, “It might take me just one more year when I will be ready to fight against Amir Khan. I am sure this fight will attract international limelight and attention. Currently, I am focusing on my next fight scheduled for April 30 against Matiouze Royer at Copper Box Arena.”

Amidst of all the speculations about this iconic contest, a fight between the two stalwarts (Singh and Khan) is still a far-fetched dream as Vijender has just started his pro boxing career and has only four bouts to his credit whereas the Pakistan-born boxer is a renowned name in the pro circuit and has fought 34 bouts till now.

According to Neerav Tomar, CEO and MD of IOS Boxing Promotions, “Technically Amir Khan boxes in middleweight (72.5kg) while Vijender in super middleweight (76kg).
“Of course a fight is definitely possible but may be next year or 2018. Either Amir has to gain weight or Vijender needs to lose some. For Amir with his body structure I am not sure whether he can. Ditto Vijender. Thus, it is very much possible, but the technicalities exist.”
