SAG: Heena, Sweta win gold as Indian shooters sweep Women 10m Air Pistol

Heena Sidhu Indian Women ShooterGuwahati: In 12th South Asian Games, Indian shooters swept the 10m Air Pistol Women today. 

Heena won the women's 10m Air Pistol team gold along with Shweta Singh and Yashaswini Singh Deswal but had to settle for silver in the individual event where compatriot Sweta Singh claimed top honours at the Kahilpara Shooting Range. The Bronze medal won by Yashaswini Singh Deswal.

Earlier Chain Singh put himself in pole position to be pronounced Athlete of the Games as he won his fifth and sixth Gold medals at the XII South Asian Games being played at Guwahati and Shillong.

On day five of competition at Guwahati’s Kahilpara Shooting Range, Chain dominated the Men’s 50M Rifle 3 Position’s event to win Gold with a degree of ease. He first topped qualifying with a score of 1170 and then led the finals from shot one to finish with a score of 453.3.

Indian team-mate and Olympic Bronze medalist Gagan Narang bagged the Silver with a score of 450.3 in the finals, a fair distance away from Chain.

Sri Lankan SMM Samarkoon won the Bronze with a score of 430.9 in the finals. The Team Gold in the event also went to India, where Chain, Gagan and Surendra Sinh Rathod’s combined score of 3490 was far ahead of Sri Lanka’s Silver winning effort of 3431. Bangladesh won Bronze after posting a score of 3398.

India’s tally from shooting at the Games now stand at 21 Gold, nine Silver and Eight Bronze medals for a total of 38 medals out of the 65 distributed in the sport so far. Pakistan are second in terms of medal won with 11 but the lone Gold won by Bangladesh for a total of six medals puts them in official second position.

Chain had earlier won both the individual and Team Golds in the Men’s 50M Rifle Prone and 10M Air Rifle events.
