BCCI vs PCB: The battle of cricket goes off field

A day when India is seeing a permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), after being supported by other members, it is quite clear that now the Nawaz Sharif-led government in Pakistan is on the back-foot and is not able to read the spin, Modi is bowling from the US. But what is more interesting here for cricket followers is that even the Pakistan Cricket Board is feeling a similar heat. And it might be for this reason that urging India to travel UAE for a series, suddenly a warning has been delivered by Shahryar Khan, PCB chairman, threatening to boycott India from all ICC and ACC events.

Till today, many would have argued that India must keep politics away from sports, but the so-called 'warning' from Pakistan cricket body has clearly indicated that there is much more here for them, than just a cricket tour.

PCB has stated that the BCCI has not sought permission from the required body for the series, which was proposed a long time back. The PCB has been requesting for that over the last few years, however, the BCCI has clearly shown lack of interest and has valid reasons for that.

First, it is a sad and mourning time in the board as it lost one of its strongest administrator and BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya on Thursday. It is quiet who as of now would be calling the shots in the board.

Secondly, ever since the Modi government hascome to power, there has been constant disturbance on the line of control (LOC) and the Gurudaspur terror attack was evidence to it. So when Pakistan is in ‘proxy war’ with India, there is no question about moving ahead with such a controversial tour.

Thirdly, the most important reason for BCCI's lack of interest in proceeding with the series is that the PCB just wants to use this series to bail itself out from the financial mess that it has been over the years.

So looking at the circumstances, nobody would mind this move or ‘political strategy’ of the BCCI to add salt to wounds of the wounded PCB.
