Adelaide: Will Mahendra Singh Dhoni keep Sachin Tendulkar out of the playing eleven in Sunday’s match against Australia as a part of Team India’s rotation policy at the top in order to give youngsters, especially Rohit Sharma, enough chance to have the match practice?
If indication emanating from Saturday’s press conference is anything to go by, in most likely hood Master Blaster may play in the 4th ODI as R Ashwin, who came in to face the media from India’s side, failed to give a concrete answer when asked about the playing eleven in Sunday’s match.
The off-spinner R Ashwin on Saturday said that he was not aware of the team's selection policy. "How do I know about the team's selection policy," Ashwin said, unlike on previous occasions when Virender Sehwag and Mahendra Singh Dhoni had openly advocated the policy stating that the top three batsmen will be rotated in the first half of the Tri-series.
However, Media manager, GS Walia said that team's priority was to qualify for the finals. "Rotation doesn't mean that we have to adhere to it without seeing the interest of the team. The first priority is to qualify for the finals," he added.
Meanwhile, the rotation policy of Team India has drawn a lot of flak from former players who think that resting players like Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir will do no good to already sagging fortune of India Down Under. According to the experts, if India is to make a mark in the ongoing Tri-series, Mahendra Singh Dhoni will have to rely on their top three batsmen who not very long ago had won India the World Cup.
