She fought like a warrior and won a billion hearts back home before losing to a much better player and world champion Carolina Marin of Spain to settle for the silver in women’s badminton singles at Rio Olympics on Friday. PV Sindhu, however, will go down in the Indian sports history as the first Indian woman to win a silver medal in the Olympics. In process, she also became only the fifth women, including Karnam Malleswari, Saina Nehwal, Mary Kom and Sakshi Malik to have won a medal at the mega event.
Though she failed to win the gold, she is already a champion for her countrymen and the people back home showed their gratitude and happiness on her achievement on the social media. From the Indian President, Prime Minster to celebs, including Amitabh Bachchan, Vijender Singh, Virender Sehwag and others, everyone congratulated the silver medallist on twitter:
