Minerva Academy Cricket Club win Uttrakhand Gold Cup 2016

Minerva AcademyNew Delhi: Minerva Academy registered a title winning triumph in the 34th All India Uttrakhand Gold Cup Cricket Tournament 2016 by beating the DDCA (Delhi Distt. Cricket Association) by 62 runs by VJD method.

After riding on a high and beating two other Ranji teams in the tournament namely, Uttarakhand Cricket Association team and Tripura Cricket Association, MACC came into the final all guns blazing. Winning the toss and electing to bowl first the DDCA team put the Minervans in who got off to great start with Sarul Kanwar (50) and Prashant Chopra (20) putting on 70 for the first wicket before Prashant became the victim of Pradeep Sangwan and Sarul Kanwar was bowled out to Varun Sood.

Jeevanjot Singh came next could not offer much support and was caught out to Yogesh Nagar’s tricky ball. But Jaskaran Singh of Minerva along with Nabid Husain and Gurinder Singh resurrected the Minerva Innings. Jaskaran Singh played a match winning knock of 75 runs including 3 sixes and he was ably supported by Gurinder Singh (41), Nabid Hussain (48). Minerva were bowled out for 302 runs with just 4 balls left in the stipulated 45 overs.

Yogesh Nagar was successful for DDCA with 3 wickets for 58 runs, while Pradeep Sangwan and Navdip Saini chipped in with two wickets each.

In reply the DDCA batsmen got off to a shaky start and kept on losing wickets n regular intervals. The Minerva bowlers showed great discipline in line and length and gave no opportunity to the Delhi batsmen to free their arm.

Pardeep Sangwan (47) tried his best along with Aun Shorey (38) and Himmat Singh (44) but the Delhi batsmen kept losing wickets and could never catch upto the ever increasing run rate. After 33 overs when the score was 229/9 wickets the match was interrupted by hail storm and further play was called off. BUt, till the the MInervans had already secured title winning victory by 62 runs by VJD rule.

The prizes were given away by Honble Chief Minister of Uttrakhand Harish Rawat and also Mr. R.P Singh (Former India WC winning India Player)
Jaskaran Singh was given the man of the final award for a brilliant batting performance of 75 runs. And best bowler award was given to Mr. Pradeep Prashar of Minerva Academy for taking 14 wickets in the tournament.
