Paris: World No. 1 and three-time French Open champion Serena Williams got the better of Teliana Pereira, 6-2, 6-1 to move into the third round of French Open, here on Thursday.
She needed little more than an hour and dropped just three games en route to a near-flawless victory over Pereira.
Williams will now meet France's Kristina Mladenovic who defeated her former doubles partner Timea Babos for a spot in the third round.
Meanwhile, Simona Halep had to strive hard against Naomi Osaka as she lost the first set 4-6 before coming back strong to win the next two 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Former champion Ana Ivanovic eased past Kurumi Nara and into the third round of the French Open. Ivanovic struck 35 winners to run out a 7-5, 6-1 winner.
