Mumbai: Aaron Finch once again scored a half century (67 off 54 balls) and helped Gujarat Lions beat Mumbai Indians by three wickets in the Indian Premier League match played at Wankhade Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.
In all praise for Finch, Gujarat Lions skipper Suresh Raina said, "It’s good place to play cricket, especially against Mumbai. They are tough to beat in Wankhede. Finch and Baz started well and before that the bowlers executed the plans really well. I think low scoring matches are difficult to chase. When the ball was doing something, someone needed to stay there with Finch. Nobody did, that was credit to Mumbai. Finchy stayed calm though. Kulkarni batted and bowled well too. When you have Bravo, Faulkner, Praveen, Jakati there, you always believe that they will win it for you.”
Meanwhile, Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma said that they would have to swallow the defeat. "We can't afford to do that. We let ourselves down with the bat. I thought our bowlers did a pretty good job. It could have gone either way, but that's how this game is. It’s not where we would have liked to be. Not surprised by the Wankhede wicket. Generally it plays pretty good. As I said, we didn't bat well. Dew came in later and the ball stopped swinging. If we had got 150-160 we would have been in the game. Mitchell bowled really well to get us back. It gets hard when you lose too many wickets in the early overs."
Man-of-the-match Aaron Finch said, “I am feeling good as I'm batting nicely. I want to continue winning games for my team. It was nice to finally get us home over the line. I will try to take it upon myself to bat right through. Kulkarni hit that four through mid-off and took the pressure off me. With the ball too he was outstanding along with Praveen.”
