Guwahati: Hockey is all set to make it count at the 12th South Asian Games. The South Asian Games are scheduled to be held between 5 – 16 February and will see the Women’s hockey team and Men’s team in action starting 7th February, 2016 at Moullana MD. Tayabullah Hockey Stadium, Bhetapara in Guwahati, Assam.
The women’s team will play their first match against Nepal on 7th February and will be the hot favourites to win the Gold Medal. The team which is led by marquee Captain Ritu Rani will be looking to make the most of these matches as it will act as the warm-up before the South African tour. On the tour the women’s team will be facing the South African, Scottish and German squads. The women’s group in the 12th South Asian Games consists of Nepal and Sri Lanka.
The men’s group consists of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. India will be one of the favourites in the group but Pakistan will look to give the home team tough competition. India will open their account against Bangladesh on 7th February and India will be the hot favourites to win the match. The last edition of the South Asian Games saw the Indian men team winning the silver medal. The team led by forward Mandeep Antil.
