Manchester: Indian’s star boxer Vijender Singh continued his winning streak in the professional boxing arena as the Beijing Olympics bronze medallist went on to beat Bulgaria’s Samet Hyuseinov in less than two rounds in Manchester on Saturday.
Vijender won via technical knockout in the second round when he cornered Hyuseinov with a flurry of combination punches to force the referee into stopping the bout. The six-round contest ended barely 35 seconds into the second round. Vijender this remained unbeaten since making his debut in October.
“I am happy for another knockout win and making it 3-0. Attacking strategy on Samet from the very first minute of the first round helped me a lot to win this game in the second round. For my third bout, I did a lot of physical hardwork and improved my techniques, which helped me to win today’s game against an opponent who had the experience of playing 14 bouts,” said the Indian boxer, adding that he was confident of beating him.
“My win is a Christmas gift for all my Indian friends and fans and I am feeling happy that I ended year on a winning note. Before my bout everyone was asking me that your opponent speaks a lot about giving you tough time in the ring, but I think now my punches have replied to him and it will be lesson for future opponents also,” said Vijender.
