New Delhi: Banga Beats completed its team for the $1-million Indian Badminton League at player auction ceremony held in the capital today. Commonwealth Games Bronze Medalist P Kashyap would be the icon player for the Banga Beats. Banga Beats the team franchise owned by real estate consultant group BOP.
Amit Mavi, Skipper of Banga Beats & Managing Director, BOP Group said “During the auction all franchises were anxious to add more star names in their team but our objective was to build a strong, balanced team for the tournament. While bidding we tried our best to bid for the players which can be a rare combination of young, aggressive and experience for the team”.
Meanwhile, BOP Group has appointed Olympian and former National Champion U Vimal Kumar as the Chief Coach of ‘Banga Beats’. As a player, Kumar won the prestigious French Open in 1983 & 1984 and the Welsh International Open in 1988 & 1991 and also went on to become India’s National Chief Coach. Kumar also represented India at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992, and was ranked in the Top-20 in the world. BOP has appointed former International player Vijay Lancy, who is also an alumni of the Indian Institute of Management- Calcutta, as the CEO of ‘Banga Beats’.
