Football has seen rivalries between countries, players and clubs. Managers seldom come into concept of rivalry. Mourino-Wenger is one such which has been thrilling the fans for a decade.
Arsenal, after being a powerless pistol for more than a decade, are now acting to their name. Wenger, longest serving manager among the current EPL list is getting his tactics right after long desperate years. Mourino, on the other hand is facing ostracism from 'great manager' tag, by nearing the last quarter of the league table.
The twist to the story was in this year's Community Sheild, where these two locked horns against each other. The 1-0 win for Arsenal was a fiasco for Chelsea, especially Mourino. Jose never had a negative result against Wenger till that fixture. Wenger indicated the change in the saga. The match was even hotter in the end as both managers refused to shake hands.
After starting as favorites, Chelsea are underdogs now and Arsenal being vice versa. Though Chelsea managed a controversial win over gunners, they failed to show their class in remaining part of the league. Result, Mourino on verge of being sacked and a match ban has added fuel to this fire. Wenger, who gets booed every year for being without big titles, is now being eulogised.
With more than half season ahead on time's road, things may change. But things in the past between these two are going to set fire among fans for the things between them in future. With all in future being just a probability, one sure event is that history of manager rivalry will have these two among the top seats.
