“Detractors are just jealous because I roped in Mahendra Singh Dhoni,” says the stepped aside BCCI Chief, N Srinivasan. Dhoni is leading his franchisee Chennai Super Kings since the inception of IPL and he feels that’s the reason behind he is being attacked by his enemies. Srinivasan left the presidentship of BCCI after his son-in-law, Gurunath Meiyappan, was arrested on the grounds of betting and spot-fixing.
BCCI Chief was quoted by Hindustan Times saying, "Why do you think people are jealous of CSK (Chennai Super Kings)? It is because of Dhoni. There was a savage attack on me (recently) because I have Dhoni.
Srinivasan said it because of the controversies that sparked up during the sixth edition of IPL which forced him to leave his office and he also faced criticism on issues of propriety and probity after the arrest of his son-in-law Meiyappan.
Meanwhile the recent reports in Times of India quoted him saying, “My detractors would remain silent if I had released Dhoni at that time.” Though he showered his praises on Indian captain for winning the Champions Trophy 2013 and also avowed him as an “innovative captain”. He also recollected the thoughts of former Indian coach Gary Kirsten on Dhoni’s captaincy.
"On the field Dhoni never showed his emotions and was an intelligent cricketer and a simple man. Former Indian coach Gary Kirsten once said that on the field, no one can equal Dhoni as a captain.”
Srinivasan had recently stepped aside till a probe into his son-in-law Gurunath Meyyappan was completed, with former chief Jagmohan Dalmiya being named head of an interim arrangement to run the Board.
