NEW DELHI: Participants at the ongoing 5th AFC Medical Conference have given the three-day gathering a resounding thumbs up.

With the aim of achieving football excellence through evidence based sports science and medicine, the highly acclaimed event in the Indian Capital is being attended by some 600 attendees from a staggering 67 Countries.

“This conference is a knowledge bank,” declared Daniel Deigan, an Australian Sports Scientist presently based in India and working with the national football teams.

“The sessions are educative. Not only I have learnt new concepts, but I have been lucky enough to brush up on some of my fundamentals. All in all, I’m in love with the conference,” he added.

The conference, the first of its kind to be held in South Asia, has attracted a wide range of practitioners, with doctors, sports psychologists, nutritional experts, physiotherapy and rehabilitation experts, coaches, fitness instructors as well as sports scientists all benefitting from the wide-ranging topics being discussed.

“The AFC Medical Conference has provided us with an opportunity to grow in our trade. It has already been a happy learning experience and we all are basking in knowledge,” Ms. Zohreh Haratian, an AFC Medical Committee Member from Iran and a doctor by profession, said, adding that the conference was an “amazing learning experience.”

“With education, training and informative conferences such as these, we can bring a drastic change to the sports science world while improving the quality of sports scientists and medical staff across Asia and the World.”

“I am honored to be a participant here and I hope that the Asian Football Confederation will conduct more conferences such as this in the future.”

The Conference has even attracted the best from the Indian Super League. Kazi Juyef Islam, the Physiotherapist from Kerala Blasters told www.the-aiff.com that he was “desperate” to attend the Conference.

“As a Physio, you need to sync yourself with the modern trends in the field of Sports Science and what better way to be on the same platform with the pioneers of Sports Medicine. I need to thank AIFF and AFC for choosing India as the venue and only hope that I get to attend many such more in my lifespan,” Islam stated before running off to his Session.

With the conference affording so many opportunities to learn, there has, perhaps not surprisingly, been a sizeable number of students in attendance.

“The Medical Conference is helping us to understand the tenacity of sports science. The implications and uses of sports science that have been taught at the conference will help us become better in our trade,” explained Heena Bhargava, a Student of Banarsidas Chandiwala Institute of Physiotherapy.

“It has been an enlightening experience which is evolving us into better physiotherapists, Sports Scientists and Physical Trainers,” Heena concluded.

Dubbed by many as the ‘Best Indian Physio,’ Kerala’s Gigi George pronounced that it’s up to the individual to “grasp as much as possible.”

“It is a fantastic opportunity for every one related to the Medical Staff in the Indian Sports World to learn from some of the very best in the business. The onus lies on us to see our Athletes perform to the best of their physical abilities,” George who is presently associated with the Indian National Team quipped.

“I am hoping to learn and accumulate as much knowledge as possible as the Conference is not only broad based but also zooms down on the minute technicalities which affect the daily upkeep of a Footballer,” he informed.

The 5th AFC Medical Conference is scheduled to close on Wednesday (December 02, 2015).
