JADAVPUR, KOLKATA: India U-19 started their campaign in the triangular series with an emphatic win against Bangladesh U-19 in a low-scoring encounter in the first match at Jadavpur University Campus in Kolkata on Friday.
With the help of some lower order fight, India managed to score just 158 runs. In reply, Bangladesh batting line-up were totally destroyed by Indian bowlers for just 76 runs on the board. India won the first match by 82 runs and snatched a bonus point.
After winning the toss, India chose to bat first under Ricky Bhui’s captaincy. Indian batting were left in deep trouble after top and middle order went back to the pavilion quickly. In 24.3 overs, India was 76/7. Zeeshan Ansari (34) and Avesh Khan (25*), the hosts’ lower order batsmen took their team into a fighting total of 158 runs in 45.2 overs. Opener Washington Sundar (34) and Zeeshan Ansari were jointly the highest scorers for the team and only four players reached into the two-digit scores.
Bangladeshi off-break bowler, Mehedi Hasan Miraz took three wickets for his team.
In reply, Bangladesh batting never looked comfortable against Indian bowling line up. The visitors were bowled out for just 76 runs in 22 overs. Avesh Khan ended his day with an impressive figure of 6-3-4-4. Zeeshan Ansari also bowled beautifully and finished his day with the figure of 2-1-1-2.
Only two Bangladeshi batsmen -Shafiul Hayet (26) and Saeed Sarkar (13) crossed the 10-run mark.
India took five points, including a bonus-point from this match. India U-19 will now face Afghanistan U-19 in their next match on Saturday.
