No Indian cricketer is involved in rape incident in Zimbabwe: BCCI president Anurag Thakur

Putting aside the media reports that one of the Indian cricketers has been arrested on rape charges in Harare, BCCI president Anurag Thakur clarified that ‘there is no truth to these allegations’.

According to a report in The Indian Express, Thakur stated, “There is no truth in this allegation. No one from Indian team is involved in the incident,” he said. The information was echoed by India’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe R Masakui who said, “No cricket team member is involved in the incident.”

Meanwhile, according to a report in Hindustan Times, the external affairs ministry denied reports on Sunday that an Indian cricketer was arrested in Zimbabwe on charges of rape.

According to the HT report, an Indian national affiliated with one of the sponsors was arrested, sources said. The accused denied the charges and said he was ready for a DNA test to prove innocence. Sources in the ministry also said the reports of a cricketer being involved were untrue and that no player was found involved in such an incident.
