Hua Hin, Thailand: The duo of Mukesh Panchal and Sandip Ambalia beat 11 other teams to book a berth in the World Final of the Audi quattro Cup 2016. In the India final hosted by Audi India at the world class Banyan Golf Club here on Saturday, Mukesh and Sandip representing Audi Ahmedabad garnered 46 points to qualify for the World Final to be held at Barcelona, Spain later this year.
The team representing Audi Pune comprising of Bhushan Musale and Vaibhav Dwivedi finished distant runners-up with a total of 36 points while the team from Bengaluru consisting of Hitesh Joshi and K Chandra Prakash secured the third place at 31 points.
Mukesh and Sandip had it all going for them from the first hole itself with a fantastic opening birdie and immediately followed it up with another on the par 3 second hole. With a chip-in birdie on the 10th hole, they started putting themselves out of touching distance of the others and the birdie on the par 4, 14th all but sealed the victory for them.
India’s number one amateur Tvesa Malik was also on hand to add to the glamour quotient. She encouraged the finalists and competed with them on holes 2 & 15 for the closest to the pin challenge.
The India final was a culmination of the nation-wide event conducted across 10 cities. Played on a unique ‘Greensome Stableford’ format, two players of varying handicaps were randomly drawn to form a team.
The Audi quattro Cup tournament series, established in 1991, has become one of the most celebrated amateur golf tournaments in the world bringing together over 100,000 golfers from 54 countries. The Indian circuit of Audi quattro Cup touched over 1400 golfers in all.
